I'm buying a flat and have had very little (no) progress from my solicitor. We first signed up to their services in mid-August just after having an offer accepted. It's now early Oct and despite repeated enquiries we are seeing no progress. The solicitor is replying to emails sporadically, at the start they were very quick. They had very good public feedback online and all previous customers seemed to think they were fast and responsive. I'm a first time buyer, so not sure what fast and responsive means in practice.

The solicitor received our mortgage information on Sept 28th. Based on the real estate agent talking with the seller, our solicitor has made no enquiries to the seller/vendor.

Is this typical? Do solicitors do any searches or enquiries to the seller before receiving mortgage information? How long does a solicitor generally take to do the various searches?
