My elderly brother and his daughter have purchased a large cottage in devon,so she can look after her parent's. Within a couple of days the septic tank was full, even though it had been emptied within the last couple of weeks. The soakaway was not working, and there was a pipe drawing off water to the road whenever the drains backed up to the house. A plumber said this was not allowed and it will cost about £2500 to put right. A couple of days later we found that the heating was botched by the previous owner and was incapable of heating the water or radiators properly. The hot water was being supplied by a emersion heater, which went wrong, and was impossible to replace because of the position of the tank. The quote for this work is aboutm £6000.
    Do we have any comeback?
