  • Land Registry Co-Owner Missing

My friend is trying to sell her house. The problem is that she bought the property in 1989 or thereabouts in joint names with her then partner. In 1993 she had a heart attack, and whilst she was in hospital the partner upped and left and hasn't been seen or heard from since.

My friend has managed to retain the property, but it remains technically in joint names, and there is no way to contact the former partner.

Obviously this presents an issue in respect of the transfer of the deeds to the new owner.

Does anyone have anything to suggest, or know of any legal precedent? - my friend's solicitor is being less than helpful and wants £850 (which she doesn't have) for a barrister's legal opinion.
