  • Does Leaseholder have to pay for unwanted Sky TV?

When a friend of mine moved into his flat, the communal arial for the TV was rubbish, so he had virgin cable installed, (this was about four years ago). The managing agents have now had Sky installed and are insisting that he should pay £150.00 towards it, saying it adds value to his property. He told them originally that he did not want it as he had made his own arrangements, but they are badgering him for the money. He does not have much spare cash and i do not think he should have to pay for something he does not need. When he queried it, they told him that if the drive was resurfaced, he would have to contribute whether he had a car or not which is a bit of a silly comparison! What do you think guys?

What does the lease say? If installing Sky is within the range of services covered by the service charge, he is obliged to pay his share
This is based on my experience as a conveyancing solicitor in England, but I do not accept liability for information I give in this forum
