we are in the process of buying a house we are number 4 in a chain of 5. The problem we have is that the first time buyer (no. 1 in the chain) has found out that the property he is buying will require the roof to be replaced in about 5 years. He can’t afford the 5k it is going to cost and tried to re negotiate with no 2, they could help to the sum of 1k but that is all. He is still looking for more so rather than the chain break down we have offered to chip in the rest. Now is where the problem starts, it seems he needs the cash so can’t take it as a reduction on sale price through the chain. We have now been told that we can’t give the solicitors the money to hold as it seems it is classed as a ‘money laundereing’ or an ‘incentive’ which is not allowed. It seems that there is no way of doing this and the sale is on the verge of collapse. Anyone help /advise please?
