  • Selling Flat - Buyer Requesting Insurance from Other Flat in Building

    Hi there,

First time poster with selling woes unfortunately and just wondered if anyone had similar experiences/advice.

After over 2 months of our buyer and their solicitor moving extremely slowly we finally began to see real progress! But now, the buyers solicitor is adamant that he wants to see the insurance policy of the flat upstairs. We are the ground floor of a leasehold period property consisting of 2 flats.

However, as fate would have it, the guy who owns it also runs the shoddy letting agent who manage the flat. These shoddy practices led to me getting into more than one fraught conversation with this man and we basically do not like each other in the slightest as a result. Now we have had to request this policy off of him and predictably enough, nothing!

I have asked our buyers solicitor repeatedly if seeing this policy is essential in order to exchange/complete. As if the owner of the other flat chooses not to disclose this info, there really is very little we can do about it.

Would be a shame to lose a sale/months invested over this. Just wondered if this is common, or even necessary in order to exchange?
