  • Notice to quit - advice please

    We are in a 6 month tenancy. It ends on the 4th of June. We wrote to the agents giving one months notice, to end our tenancy on the 30th of April, effectively 35 days early.
    The agents have flatly refused this notice, and are telling us we will have to pay for re marketing fee's. And if they are unable to re rent the property, within 6 weeks, we will be charged for more re marketing. (Our agreement only states we may be liable for these charges.)

    Does anyone know, or have experience, of using the harassment from debt collectors (for the previous tenant) as a get out clause?

    If you are contracted for a 6 month tenancy then that is what you have accepted that you are liable for.

    Of course, if you didn't sign a contract then there's no problem - but if you did, you are liable for the cost of the remaining period of the lease.

    Better to just change your leaving date to the date you are contracted up to.
