  • Ivy markings on brick work

I've managed to remove the ivy from the brick wall on my property, (it was a lot!) but I'm left with light brown roots and bits of stem which are stuck firmly to the brickwork, and looks horrible. Does anyone have any ideas how I can remove it please...?

Re: Ivy markings on brick work

The bricklayers of my acquaintance absolutely hate ivy because it encourages damp (as well as hiding a lot of sins) so well done for having the patience to remove it. They tell me that there are proprietary brands of cleaner available that will do much of the work for you - just google brickwork cleaning products - and there are some which are acid-free and may help. However, the bad news is that the pointing is not salvageable. The discolouration and damage will be permanent so you will probably have to employ a professional to scrape out the mortar and repoint the brickwork for you. Hope this helps.
