    I think that the minimalism is not always a key to making a room appear larger. Sometimes the shape of furniture or the way they are set can actually help.
    For example use tables or chairs that don't look like solid blocks, but the ones that have some 'space' at the bottom.
    Don't put big pieces of furniture in the middle of the room.
    Some materials like glass and metal reflect the light, whereas dark wood makes a room look smaller and heavier. Colour makes the difference.
    Try a few arrangements and see what looks the bets.

      Some new build companies have been known to use smaller furniture to make their rooms look bigger.
