    My house is on the market with Taylors, as the property belonged to me and my ex its empty so we trusted the estate agents witha set of keys to do the viewings. After a viewing we would try and pop round to ensure it was fully secure on a few occasions lights had been left on garden gate open. These would be raised with the agents, I always thought I was being picky about it.
    The house sold stc and the buyers went in with a plumber this Monday and I was advised an agent would accompany them, all happy. On Thursday this week I received a call advising me that a surveyor would be doing a home buyers survey on the house that afternoon he has collected the keys, again that's fine.
    Friday at 11 I received a call from taylors advising me that the surveyor was there Friday morning checking the property and there had been an accident he was checking the window it was a little stiff as he's pushed it it's snapped off the hinges and fell through the tiles in the porch canopy. They then said can you get round the property as he needs upto leave it's damaged and insecure. Right my question is why was he there Friday when they advised Thursday I checked with taylors and they said we noticed your keys were missing Friday morning and we're chasing him.
    So I'm left footing the bill, Taylors wiped their hands of it saying it's not their problem, the surveyors were talking about compensation and me I'm left out of pocket. From my view in my employment I believe I have a burglary.
    Please who is to blame?

    Personally I always ask clients if I can give out the keys but this would only to be surveyors or specialists, not buyers or any of their tradesmen, these would always be accompanied.
    So it seems they told you surveyor would be going. If the property was empty then I wouldn't see a problem in them going the next day. If the property was occupied then of course I would inform you the day/time had been changed.
    It seems clear the surveyor admits he was at fault and if the surveyors are talking about compensation then how will you be out of pocket ?

      As mentioned drhouse...It clearly seems that the surveyor admits he was at fault and if the surveyors are talking about compensation it seems will difficult to you.

        Hi, Sounds like a stressful time for you and poor communication from your agent. As and estate agent dealing in sales and lettings we understand communication is the number one priority and that you need to trust us. The surveyor will have insurance so should be no issue over cost. As for Taylors they are part of Countrywide the largest estate agent in the UK. I suggest writing to the area manager and explaining the issues with communication ans ask for it to be reflected in your final fee. Hope you get a quick exchange!

          Choosing the right letting agent is always key to ensure a hassle free management of your property. A good letting agent can avoid some very expensive mistakes and can help you maximise your rental income. Looks like you have chosen a wrong letting agent with poor communication skills. We should all do our due diligence when looking for help from professional letting agents.
