  • Housing market in decline - Nationwide

The Nationwide has reported a 1.2% decrease in property inflation for June 2006.

The decrease is partly blamed on rises in bills for utilities and council tax, as well as expectation of higher interest rates on the way.

However, the Nationwide does report an increase of 2.6% overall for the second quarter.

The overall situation being predicted is one of relatively modest rises due to costs outstripping earnings.

At the same time, I understand that the Halifax have reported a slow down i property marketing in June.

That's right - hopefully good news on the buying front.
