  • Floating Homes

Hi. Does anyone know anything about floating homes? I dont mean a houseboat but a bungalow that is on water. I'd like to know how easy/difficult it is to get a mortgage on such properties. How do you look after floating homes (in particular the underwater bit)? Do they make good homes, compared to bricks & mortar houses, or are they nothing but trouble?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Sorry AndreaV, but just had to laugh - is this 'floating' home in the UK? If it's 'floating' I am surprised there are none on the market with the amount of rain that falls here. Eventually, apart from the wellies and macs, we'll all have to learn to scuba dive to inspect the under-side of our houses. How does one waterproof a floating bungalow?

Haha. This is a real UK property on a local marina and as such its in one of the best locations in the whole region. Given that it's still afloat after about 10 years I guess it must be waterproof but, apart from learning to scuba dive, I have no idea how to maintain the under-water part of the property. There seem to be a few websites with guidance on buying and maintaining house-boats but this isnt a boat. I am hoping that someone out there has some experience on this kind of property.
