  • Our first spam!

We got our first spam today for PropertyWatch - someone dropping links for an Indian Real Estate website.

The search engines are finally picking up the content here, and while everything remains somewhat slow at the moment, I'm confident that we're going to see momentum start to build up now.

Good that you were able to pick up the spam. If google is picking the site up the last thing you want is for people to have a look and find it to be inundated with spam.

Forum spammers are pretty active these days - but it's just another hazard of running a forum.

Haha.. Its like a good thing, but a bad thing too. Anyway, congratulations. That should mean in the near future we will get some more spammers, but more traffic.

I don't know. I frequent a number of forums, and the ones that get me are all the spammers trying to sell you viagra or some other kind of medicine.

However, you have to take the bad with the good, and if getting a few more spammers is the price you have to pay for a successful forum, I guess it could be worse.

I doubt if there is anywhere you can go to get away from spammers. Unfortunately.

YAY! and oh no! at the same time! The spam is actually a good thing although unwanted. I am a moderator on many forums and I find that normally new spam means several new posters that are legit as well! Looks like we are about to grow!

It's a nightmare as, in my experience, a lot of spammers simply register on multiple forums as they get a backlink to their website in the members list.

Some forums have like 20000 members, but only 20 of them are active posters..

                      It's crazy.

Its crazy to think that these people make their living posting on message boards whilst the rest of us do it unpaid!

I've run a forum before and it can be pretty bad sometimes, I usually just close off guests etc, they could at least learn to spell before they advertise

The only way to get around spammers is to have an active moderator base.
